How do I know if Mi Duole Cycling is the right club for me?
Mi Duole Cycling encompasses a wide range of cycling abilities. However, we tend to focus on two areas:
Members who race the criterium and UCA series and
Members who concentrate on weekend century rides, longer road races and hill climbs.
If you fall into one of these two areas you might be a good fit for Mi Duole Cycling. We currently have Members who race in USCF Category 1through 5, although many of them race in the masters category. Although we may occasionally schedule an easy training ride, we are not considered a recreational cycling club. This is important to note because some of our training rides do not allow us to stop and regroup at frequent intervals. If you are looking for a recreational cycling club we highly recommend the Bonneville Bicycle Touring Club. The Bonneville Bicycle Touring Club is focused on touring and day riding rather than racing.
Tell me a little about your club's training rides
We are loosely organized from a training standpoint. We aspire to put together regular schedule of training rides, but it's hit & miss. Usually as friendships and experience with various people develop, riders call each other and post things on the web site. Again, quite casual... not as structured as some teams. Pace varies widely. The team as whole tends to have a lot of Masters Category riders who climb well and like long rides on weekends. Pace on reasonable terrain is 20+ mph for most of the team. Groups are reasonable about waiting for a minute or two on climbs. It's assumed that riders can do well in apace line environment. Overall we're a pretty accommodating bunch, we seem to draw people who have a racing orientation, but are still in it for fun. A number of our guys ride the crits out in mid-valley locations. Most of our guys live along the east bench. Rides typically start at the Zoo or along Wasatch Blvd. and quickly find there way to the canyons.
How much does it cost to join?
Annual membership dues are $10. This does not include the cost of team clothing.
Checks should be made out to Mi Duole Cycling Club and submitted to Chris Peterson. Chris can be contacted via the membership form.Clothing is ordered in early January so we can take delivery by March when the racing season starts in earnest. We sometimes order extra clothing in anticipation of new members joining. Extra clothing is very limited so please check with Chris Peterson to discuss clothing availability. Chris can be contacted by using the contact form. We rely on volume pricing to keep the cost of or team clothing as low as possible. For this reason, we only place one or two orders per year. We cannot guarantee we will place an additional order thisyear. The team clothing price list is located below. After you have verified clothing availability, please submit a clothing order to Chris Peterson either by email or through the contact form. This will help reduce discrepancies if you provide your order in written form. Make arrangements with Chris to send in your payment. We do not accept credit card orders.
Do I need a USCF racing license?
You need a USCF license to race in CAT 5+ categories. It is recommended that you purchase a USCF racing license if you plan on participating in any of the USCF sanctioned races, the UCA road races or the crit series. Information on purchasing a USCF racing license can be found at USA Cycling.
Do I need to purchase a UCA plate?
You need to purchase a UCA plate ($10) to race in CAT 5+ UCA events. This covers admin/website/etc; this also gets you in the UCA point system. Some Utah vents are not part of the UCA series, these will not get results tracked but you will not be required to buy a UCA plate. They will provide their own numbering system. You can purchase your plate at Sportsbase Online. The crit series are separate, (separate scoring, plates, points, stats etc). The plate cost covers all events. However each venue has a separate entry fee. You can register for RMR/Time Trial series at Sportsbase Online. To find out more about the UCA, please visit the Utah Cycling Association webpage.
